Ant Pest Control

There are currently 40 known different species of ants in New Zealand. Each species work differently but follow similar habits. Ants cover virtually every section of land on the planet, the only places that don’t have ants are the really cold areas such as Antarctica and a few other non-desirable places.

Ants form colonies that range in size from small garden colonies to those that contain millions of ants. Virtually all ant colonies have workers, soldiers, drones and queen ants. The queens produce millions of offspring to help the colony grow.

In your home you will often see just 1 or 2 ants, these ants are workers that are foraging for foods. Once they find food they will start taking it back to the colony and more workers join the quest. Not often will ants make a nest within your home but a colony close by will cause the entering of your home.

When we treat for ants we use a product that is undetectable to the ants. We spray a barrier around your home and around areas we suspect have ant nests, these areas are located during the survey. Our ant prevention treatment will not kill the ants upon contact but the treatment will take around 3-5 days. Once the ant passes through the barrier it will be contaminated and when it returns to the nest it will contaminate every other ant it touches. This is known as the transfer effect and by doing this the whole colony will become contaminated and die within 3-5 days.

You may see the odd ant over the nest 6 month period but this ant will be a worker ant that is foraging for food, this ant will be also coated and kill off its colony.
